SheekChic Fashion Inspiration from Decades Past

I’ve always been mystified by the idea of watching models strut down a runway since I first watched America’s Next Top Model season 1 at the tender age of 7. They had this way about them that just exuded such confidence and such grace that I found fashion shows so enchanting; as I grew older and my preoccupation with the fashion world grew, I realized that though I may have only experienced the 90’s,”The Last Great Decade”, for 3 short years, its fashion influence continues to inspire me each and every day. Whenever  I see a picture of the bubbly Claudia Schiffer strutting in classic Chanel or the mesmerizing Naomi Campbell in Dolce and Gabbana’s lively ensembles, it reminds me of why I fell in love with fashion in the first place; fashion is open to everyone’s own interpretation and style is how you demonstrate that interpretation to the world. 90’s fashion runway is and will always be my absolute favorite because a lot of the designers: Gianni Versace, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander Mcqueen, and so many more were just coming to fruition, they were in the process of developing their own interpretations of fashion, making their names known, and cementing their position in the fashion world. I always value the minds of creative geniuses, unafraid to break the mold and change the game, making it their own.

I love this outfit with every fiber of my being! I appreciate the fun play with patterns and overall soft, breezy feel of this look, it’s very delicate because of the material used for the ensemble, yet it also exudes grunge, the era popularized in the 90’s, which gives the whole ensemble great versatility. It’s a look that definitely would’ve turned heads being that, the whole “grunge” look/attitude was not deemed to be very fashion-forward, or even the least bit fashionable at first. However, Marc Jacobs arranged the show so successfully that grunge began to be taken more seriously and made many more appearances in the fashion world. I also definitely need that choker and those Doc Martens from Christy.

This ensemble literally reminds of fishnets, not the material for tights, but the actual netting used to catch fish, and I love it because it gives the outfit more authenticity when a designer can take something very real and very “un-glamorous” and make it SheekChic! Props to Marc Jacobs for choosing the indigo blue, as it enhances the outfit even more, by adding mystique and the perfect amount of edge, without appearing too gothic. I want/need/love this choker as well.

These outfits are simply my favorite because they are both things  I’d never ever have in my closet or have even dared to wear during my previous years (when “fitting in” with the crowd was my sole mission in life) however, the more I inspect and admire John Galliano’s ensembles, the more I fall in love with them. Fashion is all about getting out of your comfort zone and being spontaneous, more daring, and bolder than you ever thought you could be, and I’ve learned that the best way to do that with style, is to stand out and be dynamic, never “cookie-cutter”.

SheekChic HOME DECOR

Hi guys! So, recently I hit a writer’s block and was just feeling very uninspired the last couple of weeks, and it took me going to a friend’s house to realize that there are so many decor ideas I’d love to incorporate into my website! Finding the right home furnishings and even home aesthetic is essential to all of us because we all wish to have that “safe space” or safe haven where we can just unwind and decompress. I’m hoping that by putting my (thousands) of ideas for my future home into one area, I can narrow down the pieces that truly fit my aesthetic and my vision, so whether you live in your parent’s house, a tiny house, a cozy apartment, etc. here’s some home inspiration that you can pick and choose from!

*Avant-Garde decor at Reforma

One of the secret treasures I recently discovered was the chic website Reforma, a store based in Stockholm, Sweden. I honestly always struggle with finding places to suit my aesthetic and truly carry out my vision when it comes to planning my future interiors, and I’m just glad that there’s a place that is definitely suited for the vintage- lover like myself that also appreciates modern, avant-garde pieces. I implore you to check out their website and see for yourself!

Home Decor/Aesthetic:

I LOVE WOOD AND I LOVE TREES! It will come as no surprise that wherever I live in the future will have so many wood elements and pieces because it’s something about it that just gives me comfort and brings me so much tranquility; also there are so many different types of wood to choose from, you could have cherry wood cabinets or armoires, you could have stained wood floors or tables, you can even have a sort of Chronicles of Narnia woodsy aesthetic, the possibilities are absolutely endless!

I must have this exact piece wherever I live, I’ve never seen something so beautiful and so elegant. Although I’m wondering if I would keep the original paint or if I would paint it a nice buttery yellow or a mellow mint green to add some color to the room, without disrupting the neutral decor…hmmm decisions decisions

SheekChic favorite of the day!

These are the Narnia vibes I was talking about guys! If you have no idea what Narnia is, it’s a fantasy film made in 2005, and it involves 4 orphaned children who encounter a magical wardrobe and basically help a talking lion (this is a very watered down version), I’d recommend that everyone should watch it at least once in their lives. Anywho, the movie takes place in the most enchanting New Zealand woods and countryside that anyone would dream of traveling to, and it has greatly inspired my home aesthetic!

SheekChic 2018 Trends: Ruffles!

I know I’m not the only one that has noticed the overabundance of ruffles this year ;from streetwear to online clothing stores like Princess Polly and Saboskirt, even to the  fashion runway, ruffled tops and dresses are seemingly here to stay, and I have to say that it has been my favorite trend to emerge this year. I’m usually not the type to dress in frilly, delicate attire, but it’s something about the way those ruffles spruce up your outfit, adding a bit of playfulness, yet still remaining demure and quite lovely!  I think having a ruffled ensemble in your closet is an essential piece because they’re perfect for day brunch, a light-hearted outing to the park, a downtown stroll, or even (my daydream) dancing in a sunflower field!

Enjoy the ruffled goodness below!

Grace Kelly the epitome of elegance and delicacy, shining in a such a beautiful and refined, ruffled dress. This number definitely has some Latin flavor giving it extra Va Va Voom; the open neckline lets the outfit breathe from the heaps of ruffles Grace is under, and the polka dots along the top are classy, yet whimsical additions. The floral headpiece replicating a pink rose is fit for a princess like Princess Grace Kelly, and my favorite items are, of course, those dangly earrings, clearly a must-have with any princess fit!

The patterns on these ruffles are to-die-for! I love that Karl Lagerfeld added the black vest to give the outfit some edginess and that smoldering purple smoky eye adds the perfect amount of impact to the floral ensemble, without overpowering it. Again, I completely adore those earrings! *hint hint I have an affinity for earrings if you couldn’t tell

SheekChic Summer Beauty!

Yellow Eyeshadow

Bella Hadid sported this delightfully all-yellow ensemble at a Christian Dior fashion event, and quite honestly, all I can stare at are her eyes! This is one of my all-time favorite eye looks! The yellow eyeshadow trend truly blossomed this year, taking the beauty world by storm in its ability to brighten up any outfit, casual or dressy, without seeming overpowering. While many would be fearful of wearing such an avant-garde color on the eyes, all it takes are quick sweeps of your most dazzling yellow, matte for a muted yet alluring look or patting a shimmery yellow shade, using either your fingers or a wet eyeshadow brush to model an eye look to be envied by Greek goddesses. I’m here for the canary sunflower eyes this year, how about you?

Pretty and Posh: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018 Collection

My week was made when I saw that my absolute favorite favorite designer of all-time, Chanel, had recently set the trend for this year’s Fall 2018 fashions! Decorated to replicate the bustling, picturesque Parisian streets, the runway accompanied by its own street vendor stations, street lamps, smooth pavement, and replicas of Paris’ ornate buildings, set the tone for the utmost classic elegance, Karl Lagerfeld (their head creative director) is known for. For fall/winter 2018, Chanel focused on the posh, working-woman, dressed head-to-toe in refined skirt suits, fashioned with the most expensive wool fabrics with melange designs, complete with classic Chanel pearl embellishments, and a nostalgic nod to women’s suits from the 1960’s. This runway is not for the flamboyant, fashion risk-takers, instead, with its muted shades of gray and black, this show is for the people who pride fashion in polished practicality, those working people who value structured ensembles without much fuss. They don’t have time to dress in every color of the rainbow, they have things to do, business meetings to attend, negotiations to facilitate! While this runway is not one of my favorites, *I always appreciate more vivid colors and less structure, I do appreciate the vision Lagerfeld had; in fashion, every single individual should have something for them, so this year’s collection is for the no-nonsense, corporate working-woman who values classic elegance. How CHIC!

My favorite looks from the Fall/ Winter 2018 Haute Couture Show:

I loved this ensemble’s play with patterns and different textures! The embellished cuffs and sleeveless top really helped to break up, what would’ve been an otherwise drab suit. I also appreciate that this outfit featured an off-the-shoulder, v-neck, letting the suit breathe, while other ensembles consisted of the typical, structured shoulder and a suit jacket buttoned all the way up. My favorite pieces from this show were all of the sleek, ankle-length heeled booties, what a modern take on the classic businesswoman’s shoe attire!

When I saw this nearly all-white ensemble I was so excited to see something else besides gray. I immediately thought ” Ice Queen” business executive going to a posh dinner party in the Swiss Alps! What I would do instead of the leg-slit on the skirt, is close the skirt up along that line and I would’ve added the whitest pearl embellishments to go along the side of the skirt and along the sides of the arms. This would not only add shine but still, keep the outfit looking Chic with a classic Chanel touch! Also, can I please have those beautiful shoes?!

Ahh yes, finally some color!! Loving the muted fuchsia, complete with the models’ red hair, and then some polished leather booties, perfect!

I love the sleek ponytail and a flipped pompadour to represent  “Rockabilly” fashion reminiscent of the 1950’s; this solidifies my theory that this show was influenced by the 1950’s/1960’s. This ensemble’s marble pattern really spoke to me and those fantastic shoes are simply amazing!

Last, but CERTAINLY not least

SheekChic Favorite of the day:

That HAIR! The all-black ensemble!! My favorite look from the show this year!! I love the bleach-blond versus the black ruche, what an awesome juxtaposition! Ahh this is totally an outfit I’d sport if I’m ever in the edgy, yet elegant mood; I’m just wondering what party am I wearing this too?!! Hmmm…decisions

Emily is always a favorite of mine, not only is she SHEEKCHIC royalty, but we both share a fond love of denim. Here she sports 80’s-inspired high-waisted jeans with rolled cuffs, to display her lovely choice of Western-style leather booties that I’d die to have in a heartbeat. For me, her accessories are what really make this simple ensemble come to life, the huge silver buckle and her double-hooped earrings should definitely be in your accessory arsenal!

Emily strikes again! This time, experimenting with more vibrant color themes for this outfit, I love  the rockin’ red, thigh-high, rainboots because they add sophistication to otherwise very free-flowing outfit, she took on the risk and did a fabulous job while playing with textures, denim jeans, rubber boots, and loose shirt with very thin cotton material. My absolute FAVE part of this outfit, besides those shoes, has got to be her gold necklace. Despite it being a small accessory, the necklace shines brightly as a simple yet chic choice for jewelry!

Rock n Roll! Alexander Wang Ready-To-Wear Spring 2019 Runway

This show was quite literally one of my top 3 favorite runways from this fashion season! I always love Alexander’s casual chic aesthetic featuring very classic streetwear pieces that anyone can work without having to worry about appearing too flamboyant or veering too far out of their comfort zone. The theme for his early Spring ’19 Ready-to-Wear was “Immigrant Americana” a cool twist on what it means to be “American”, full of lots of biker leather, denim jeans and outerwear, studded black booties, the coolest of red and black bandanas, and tons of edgy statement accessories that replicated the metallic material of motorcycle parts. As someone who loves to play with casual wear and throw in an edgy or sophisticated accessory or two, this show was made for someone like me, who’s fashion mood fluctuates between soft and bohemian or trendy, tomboy depending on the day. I also loved that Alexander Wang utilized his platform as an esteemed fashion designer to make a personal statement regarding his parents’ tumultuous journey as a young, struggling immigrant couple attempting to assimilate into America’s complex culture, learning the societal rules, and raise their children in a land foreign to them. Alexander’s father made his very first appearance at one of Wang’s runways to witness his son’s heartfelt tribute to honor the tenacity of immigrants, and Wang also sought to feature  his own experience of what America meant to him, “infusing it with pop culture Americana references that I grew up with like American football, motorcycle Harley Davidson culture, and rock ’n’ roll music.”. He never lost sight of the rich Chinese culture he came from, by giving a show rich with pacific islander representation, Chinoiserie motifs, and clever use of “Made in China” tags.  The show bled red, white, and blue with stars and stripes making their way to each and every look in some way, shape, or form, even …facepaint! It definitely represented what it means to be an American in the world’s melting pot.

Hugs and Kisses!
