SheekChic Summer Beauty!

Yellow Eyeshadow

Bella Hadid sported this delightfully all-yellow ensemble at a Christian Dior fashion event, and quite honestly, all I can stare at are her eyes! This is one of my all-time favorite eye looks! The yellow eyeshadow trend truly blossomed this year, taking the beauty world by storm in its ability to brighten up any outfit, casual or dressy, without seeming overpowering. While many would be fearful of wearing such an avant-garde color on the eyes, all it takes are quick sweeps of your most dazzling yellow, matte for a muted yet alluring look or patting a shimmery yellow shade, using either your fingers or a wet eyeshadow brush to model an eye look to be envied by Greek goddesses. I’m here for the canary sunflower eyes this year, how about you?

Pretty and Posh: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018 Collection

My week was made when I saw that my absolute favorite favorite designer of all-time, Chanel, had recently set the trend for this year’s Fall 2018 fashions! Decorated to replicate the bustling, picturesque Parisian streets, the runway accompanied by its own street vendor stations, street lamps, smooth pavement, and replicas of Paris’ ornate buildings, set the tone for the utmost classic elegance, Karl Lagerfeld (their head creative director) is known for. For fall/winter 2018, Chanel focused on the posh, working-woman, dressed head-to-toe in refined skirt suits, fashioned with the most expensive wool fabrics with melange designs, complete with classic Chanel pearl embellishments, and a nostalgic nod to women’s suits from the 1960’s. This runway is not for the flamboyant, fashion risk-takers, instead, with its muted shades of gray and black, this show is for the people who pride fashion in polished practicality, those working people who value structured ensembles without much fuss. They don’t have time to dress in every color of the rainbow, they have things to do, business meetings to attend, negotiations to facilitate! While this runway is not one of my favorites, *I always appreciate more vivid colors and less structure, I do appreciate the vision Lagerfeld had; in fashion, every single individual should have something for them, so this year’s collection is for the no-nonsense, corporate working-woman who values classic elegance. How CHIC!

My favorite looks from the Fall/ Winter 2018 Haute Couture Show:

I loved this ensemble’s play with patterns and different textures! The embellished cuffs and sleeveless top really helped to break up, what would’ve been an otherwise drab suit. I also appreciate that this outfit featured an off-the-shoulder, v-neck, letting the suit breathe, while other ensembles consisted of the typical, structured shoulder and a suit jacket buttoned all the way up. My favorite pieces from this show were all of the sleek, ankle-length heeled booties, what a modern take on the classic businesswoman’s shoe attire!

When I saw this nearly all-white ensemble I was so excited to see something else besides gray. I immediately thought ” Ice Queen” business executive going to a posh dinner party in the Swiss Alps! What I would do instead of the leg-slit on the skirt, is close the skirt up along that line and I would’ve added the whitest pearl embellishments to go along the side of the skirt and along the sides of the arms. This would not only add shine but still, keep the outfit looking Chic with a classic Chanel touch! Also, can I please have those beautiful shoes?!

Ahh yes, finally some color!! Loving the muted fuchsia, complete with the models’ red hair, and then some polished leather booties, perfect!

I love the sleek ponytail and a flipped pompadour to represent  “Rockabilly” fashion reminiscent of the 1950’s; this solidifies my theory that this show was influenced by the 1950’s/1960’s. This ensemble’s marble pattern really spoke to me and those fantastic shoes are simply amazing!

Last, but CERTAINLY not least

SheekChic Favorite of the day:

That HAIR! The all-black ensemble!! My favorite look from the show this year!! I love the bleach-blond versus the black ruche, what an awesome juxtaposition! Ahh this is totally an outfit I’d sport if I’m ever in the edgy, yet elegant mood; I’m just wondering what party am I wearing this too?!! Hmmm…decisions

SHEEKCHIC Style Mood for the day

Bella Hadid sizzling in all Nike Sportswear

I appreciate the effortlessly cool feel of this outfit. With athleisure having the spotlight in the fashion community, I’m always happy to see monochromatic fashion done with such taste, even down to her Navy-tinted eyewear! Bella adds her own personal twist to the sportswear trend by layering with several delicate gold necklaces. Also, major props for the classic Nike sneakers!

Emily Ratajowski Chic in Black-and-Denim ensemble

Emily is always a favorite of mine, not only is she SHEEKCHIC royalty, but we both share a fond love of denim. Here she sports 80’s-inspired high-waisted jeans with rolled cuffs, to display her lovely choice of Western-style leather booties that I’d die to have in a heartbeat. For me, her accessories are what really make this simple ensemble come to life, the huge silver buckle and her double-hooped earrings should definitely be in your accessory arsenal!

Emily strikes again! This time, experimenting with more vibrant color themes for this outfit, I love  the rockin’ red, thigh-high, rainboots because they add sophistication to otherwise very free-flowing outfit, she took on the risk and did a fabulous job while playing with textures, denim jeans, rubber boots, and loose shirt with very thin cotton material. My absolute FAVE part of this outfit, besides those shoes, has got to be her gold necklace. Despite it being a small accessory, the necklace shines brightly as a simple yet chic choice for jewelry!

Rock n Roll! Alexander Wang Ready-To-Wear Spring 2019 Runway

This show was quite literally one of my top 3 favorite runways from this fashion season! I always love Alexander’s casual chic aesthetic featuring very classic streetwear pieces that anyone can work without having to worry about appearing too flamboyant or veering too far out of their comfort zone. The theme for his early Spring ’19 Ready-to-Wear was “Immigrant Americana” a cool twist on what it means to be “American”, full of lots of biker leather, denim jeans and outerwear, studded black booties, the coolest of red and black bandanas, and tons of edgy statement accessories that replicated the metallic material of motorcycle parts. As someone who loves to play with casual wear and throw in an edgy or sophisticated accessory or two, this show was made for someone like me, who’s fashion mood fluctuates between soft and bohemian or trendy, tomboy depending on the day. I also loved that Alexander Wang utilized his platform as an esteemed fashion designer to make a personal statement regarding his parents’ tumultuous journey as a young, struggling immigrant couple attempting to assimilate into America’s complex culture, learning the societal rules, and raise their children in a land foreign to them. Alexander’s father made his very first appearance at one of Wang’s runways to witness his son’s heartfelt tribute to honor the tenacity of immigrants, and Wang also sought to feature  his own experience of what America meant to him, “infusing it with pop culture Americana references that I grew up with like American football, motorcycle Harley Davidson culture, and rock ’n’ roll music.”. He never lost sight of the rich Chinese culture he came from, by giving a show rich with pacific islander representation, Chinoiserie motifs, and clever use of “Made in China” tags.  The show bled red, white, and blue with stars and stripes making their way to each and every look in some way, shape, or form, even …facepaint! It definitely represented what it means to be an American in the world’s melting pot.

Fashion Loses an Icon: In memoriam of the late Kate Spade

I was simply browsing last night’s fashion looks from the CFDA’S when I got the notification that Kate Spade, my first favorite fashion designer, had died at the tender age of 55 from an apparent suicide, I knew I had to honor her chic yet simplistic, always sophisticated designs. *Sidenote: As a trauma survivor and someone who suffers from PTSD, I can somewhat relate to how she must’ve felt, in that I struggle every day with motivating myself to keep going. I am honored to say that she is the only reason I have any purses/handbags/wristlets, as she was someone who never disappointed in anything she endeavored. I still remember walking into Macy’s and my mom asking me what purse I’d like to get (I was never one to carry purses… EVER) but all it took was one look at a Nautical Kate Spade wristlet, and now I have 4 of her handbags. Numerous celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chelsea Clinton, Lucy Hale, and many more have expressed their condolences, her timeless designs were not only worn by celebrity “A-listers” but they were and will continue to be worn by every day people like me. She is survived by her husband,  Andy Spade and her daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade. I will never forget you or how your designs made me feel, thank you Kate.

*If you do struggle with Mental Health, please seek out professional help or tell your friends and family, even if it’s one person.

With love,

Arin Abasi

CFDA Awards Night ’18 Edition

A night to honor all of fashion’s trendsetters, the annual CFDA is one of my favorite events because of the fact that it centers around celebrating fashion designers, influencers, and recognizing specific fashion icons who are completely unafraid to wear their style on their sleeve. Many of the night’s favorites were: Kim Kardashian ( the night’s big winner of the CFDA Fashion Influencer Award) wearing a custom Rick Owens white crop dress and her classic high ponytail, supermodel Naomi Campbell in fiery red Spring ’18 Calvin Klein, and Gigi Hadid wearing a vivid Versace jumpsuit.

I loved Diane von Furstenberg’s fun play on leopard print with the burst of muted yellow, a flirty leg slit, and the simple strappy heel. The dress’ playfulness is met with a simple yellow eyeshadow look that doesn’t compete with the outfit’s brightness, it enhances it.

Lili Reinhart

Lili Reinhart (Riverdale‘s “goody-two-shoes” Betty Cooper) dresses to impress at this year’s CFDA as, in her own words, “I knew that I needed to take a risk and go out of my comfort zone,”. Coming out of her shell of normalcy proved to be a home run for Lili, as she dazzled in this extremely soft, floral number adorned with blush flowers and the palest of green leaves! It almost strikes me as a reminiscent of  Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring… hmmm A plus in my book.

To achieve this simple hair look:

Pull your hair into a mid-level bun

Take some pieces out to frame the front of your face to your liking

For extra definition, use a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, or anything with a medium/large barrel

I love the simplicity of this look, it is so bold, bursting with sunflower yellow, yet it’s so simplistic in its free-flowing construction. This is a dress for everyone, no matter the wearer, this is a win for the minimalists!

What an appropriate outfit for a night where all fashion risks are celebrated (for the most part at least), this was the look that surprised me the most, and it is actually one of my favorite looks from the supermodel to date. This flamingo-inspired dress accompanied with fuzziness all around, soft lavender to offset the outfit’s sheer boldness and a soft asymmetry for the shoulder, as well as the leg, proves daring and wild while oozing elegance, all at the same time! Well done Kendall!
