Met Gala 2019: Year of the Camp

For this year’s theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion designers and celebrities alike put on quite the show, embracing the flamboyant, vivaciousness that is camp; “camp” (not to be confused with the activity camping) is known in the fashion world as any ensemble or garment representing “exaggeration”. To me, this screams anything Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Madonna, etc. the all-stars that “go big or go home” and never shy away from making the boldest statement on the carpets. Coined by writer Susan Sontag, camp is described as “love of the unnatural”, so very elusive and very eccentric fashions not typically seen on the carpets. The dominating color this year: Schiaperelli “Shocking Pink” which created a fun-filled, vibrant playfulness throughout the gala, while still appearing chic and elegant. The best entrance of the entire decade would definitely have to go to, the queen of Camp, Lady Gaga, who descended upon the carpet with her balloon-like gorgeous gown, twirling in light, dramatic circles, as she was fanned by men in tuxedos. Then, literally 5 minutes later, disrobed to show of her sleek black gown coupled with a Mary Poppin’s style umbrella, once again made a third outfit change to a body-hugging Barbie-like gown, coupled with bedazzled sunglasses, and then undressed to show off a fourth look, complete in black, bedazzled lingerie! Wow, I am floored not just by the seamless outfit changes, but also by the complete adoption of “camp”, with her magical performance on the “Pink Carpet”. This year’s Met Gala, saw golden embellishments, soft and rosy pinks, lots and lots of tulle, and some heavy metallics! This was truly my favorite year to date, thanks to the avant-garde theme encouraging the stars to really break outside of their comfort zone and embrace the gaudy and the eccentric, a truly show-stopping night that will never be forgotten.

10. Lena Waithe

Simple and chic, while still using her platform to make a statement regarding the influence of African American drag queens on the night’s camp theme of exaggeration, screenwriter Lena Waithe shines in a custom-made Pyer Moss

Trend Predictions for Spring/ Summer 2020

  1. Psychedelic Prints
Image result for psychedelic fashion
1. With the sudden comeback of 70’s hippie fashions: flowy bohemian tops and flare jeans, etc. I definitely predict that the psychedelic, mismatched prints and patterns characteristic of the 60’s, will become huge within the next year. This will also follow the trend of bold, neon colors and prints that has been growing at a fast pace this spring/summer 2019.

2. Graffiti Fashion

Related image
To go along with the theme of bold colors and daring fashion statements, graffiti fashion, prominent in street style with metropolitan areas, will make its way to the mainstream. Edgy individuals wishing to send a message with their style choices will sport, graffiti-styled denim, leather, hats, and even shoes.

3. 80’s Graphic Art

Image result for 80s art
My spring/summer predictions for 2020 are heavily influenced by the bold, abstract trends of the 80’s; therefore, I expect to see a revival of 80’s graphic art and symbols making appearances on: t-shirts, bags, dresses, and jewelry/accessories.

4. 70’s Disco Fashion

Image result for disco fashion
There has already been a 70’s revival for spring/summer 2019, with the prevalence of flare jeans, gaudy earrings, flowy bohemian tops, etc. so I think this trend will only progress and gain more momentum for spring/summer 2020. With bold colors and prints already making a statement, 70’s sequins and bedazzled ensembles will surely be seen on the red carpet and in metropolitan areas.

SheekChic Fall Looks 2018

Hey guys! So, now that October has rolled around, I can finally, finally say that we are officially in my favorite season of the whole entire year. Autumn just has such a warm, effortless aura about it, and I feel like fall fashion is both functional yet so exciting in colors and textures, so versatile in the different ways you can style say, a red sweater or a white jersey top, and the makeup, oh the dark vampy plum lippies and the orange coppery matte eyeshadow, the possibilities are endless!!!

Soak in the fall weather with these looks below!

Alright so I know this might not be the first thing you’d reach for in your closet to wear this fall, it’s quite glamorous and curve-hugging for school/work, etc. but, if you are ever in for a night on the town, this fall would be the absolute best time to break out this slinky cranberry slip dress. I love the simplicity behind Christy Turlington’s look, with minimal jewelry, soft waves in her hair, and a strawberry-colored lipstick; to wear this dress, I’d actually pair it with a mustard or camel-colored leather jacket and some black ankle booties for a complete sheekchic evening look.

First of all Niki Taylor everyone, literally amazing! Secondly, I’m loving the woolly texture of this ensemble, as well as the soft contrast, from the beautifully-knit wool sweater to the striped, pleated gray skirt; this outfit is playing with various different patterns without seeming overwhelming. Finally, I just want my arms in the comfort of this stylishly cozy sweater. The sweater is both eclectic in the knit patterns, while also being very sheekchic and fashion-forward with the v-neck, I’d just add some translucent black or gray tights and some Doc Marten style shoe and this outfit is a knockout!

Christy strikes again! She’s giving me a very glamorous international spy vibe as well as a casual “strolling the Parisian streets in my Christian Loubotin stilettos” vibe too. She’s donning a lovely Versace ensemble with more of a demure cat-like midnight color scheme and then, (pop!), a heavy contrast in color, pattern, and texture thanks to the introduction of a leopard-print bustier dress on top. This type of layering was a classic fashion staple in the 1990’s, and I’m so thankful it’s made a comeback today because it’s one of my top favorite fashion looks. *Also, animal prints are a huge trend this fall, so don’t be afraid to let your inner feline free.

The lovely Nicola Peltz in the perfect fall outfit for everyday casual wear, you could easily catch me in this edgy, yet soft outfit on multiple occasions in the future. I appreciate the juxtaposition between the blush pink top daintily-cut along the bottom, and the stark grey washed-out denim giving the look a more vintage feel. I personally need that short cross necklace and the chunky black belt ASAP. Also, props to Nicola for sporting a wing with brown eyeliner and the addition of a coral- red lipstick, these are just oozing in autumnal goodness.

This would be SO cute with black tights, some matte brown eyeshadow, and a coral lip, or you could do a dusty purple eyeshadow look with a violet lip for a more glamorous vibe with this outfit, I can see it now..ooh la la how sheekchic!

I’m just loving the layering once again, a beautifully-knit white sweater with a perfectly black set of overalls, simple, yet very fashion-forward thanks, Rachel!

SheekChic Favorite of the Day!

This was gorgeous autumnal ensemble was spotted during this year’s Paris Fashion Week and I’m on love with the monochromatic themes, varying shades of muted pink and brick red, the dainty ruffles at the bottom, and the very sheekchic touch of satin underneath. What a showstopper!

SheekChic Reflection on Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty NYFW Show

Well, I don’t know if you have been flooded from images capturing the pop star’s latest fall 2018 lingerie collection, but I must admit that for someone without formal fashion experience or expertise, Rihanna sure knows the secret formula for hosting a noteworthy fashion show that will be talked about for months to come! This was one of the only times I’ve referred to actually watching a live stream of a fashion show, and I’d advise anyone with 18 minutes to spare, to go ahead and treat yourself to watching the delightful show. Filled with such a beautifully diverse group of models, varying shades, varying sizes, and varying statures, *also worth noting, 2 pregnant models (Wow!), this fashion show will forever be legendary, not only because the mogul has made her mark upon the fashion world, but also because Rihanna’s inclusion of all/every type of woman, is a precursor to the future of fashion, and how that bright, innovative future will be more concerned with representing real women in society. The show was dripping in Mother Nature epithets and symbolism with the women moving alongside one another in mysterious, interpretative dances as well as the decor that resembled a majestic rainforest with simulated waterfalls, forestry, and models with flora and fauna used as decorative accessories. I can’t help but appreciate how Rihanna found a way to celebrate all women while also emphasizing their power. Although it was a lingerie show in a contemporary society that demeans women to being nothing more than sexual objects, I found the show quite uplifting and very empowering. Rihanna gets a gold star!

SheekChic Best in Show Award: Bella Hadid

It’s something about the blue aura dominating this outfit, seen in her dusty blue bralette (that I want/need/love), her frilly transparent gloves, the placement of blue-green flower motifs (I’m obsessed with) along her body, coupled with the statement piece, a luxurious powder baby blue faux fur coat. This ensemble will make you feel like royalty, without seeming to gaudy or too flashy, very classy and very very elegant, which are not typically associated with women’s lingerie. Tom Van Dorpe, the head stylist for the show deserves the utmost recognition for carrying out the theme and Rihanna’s vision flawlessly, I loved the theme of vibrant monochromatic color that was prevalent in all of his ensembles. I also appreciate the slicked topknot which adds structure, and the shock of turquoise eyeliner drawn on the very top of her eyelid, which both draw attention to her upper body, the main focus of the look.

*Final Shout out to the makeup artist that expertly applied Bella’s illuminated bronzer along her collarbone and the dewy highlight on her forehead, cheekbones, and nose. Perfection!

DUCKIE THOT!!! She simply kills it on every runway. every day, in life, in general, etc. Anyways, still keeping with the vibrant blues, I’m obsessed with the midnight blue of this ensemble and how the color just bounces off of her body. Her cool-toned, deep complexion coupled with the intense vibrancy of this ensemble, makes it so much more memorable because together they’re so striking. However, I also feel like, despite its intensity, I can visualize people of any/all skin tones wearing this ensemble, without being drowned out. The blue truly brings out the best in every skin tone.

*Second* SheekChic Favorite of the Day

So beautiful! So feminine! So pregnant! This ensemble is very “mother-nature” heavy, filled with very maternal vibes and blush pink accents to represent nurture. I would also love to replicate this makeup look, all you need is: lavender shimmer eyeshadow, rose-colored blush, and a dewy highlighter, and you’re good to go!

I’m obsessed with the monochromatic earthy tones of this entire look! I also like the use of textured fish netting material on legs, as well as on the headdress (my favorite accessory), to give the outfit dimension. The touch of white flowers scattered across her body, prove to be the perfect accents, adding even more femininity to the ensemble.

This is such an immense explosion of COLOR!! I’ve never seen fuchsia used in such a demure way, that doesn’t take away from the beauty of the outfit. The huge pink flowers are flawlessly placed along her body, and the shock of pink eyeliner emphasizes the model’s striking features. I am obsessed with these strappy heels, and how elegant, yet avant-garde they are. What a statement piece!

All I can say is “Happy Valentine’s Day from the Powerpuff Girls!!!”

I’ve already envisioned myself in the lavender purple ensemble, and I’m in heaven.

Hugs and kisses!!!

SheekChic Fashion Muses for the Week!

Hi guys! I’ve literally been gone forever but I’m back and I’m better, and I’ve been seeing many many inspirational styles from contemporary fashionistas as well as the vintage ones (we can never forget those who paved the way for us). I think I’m going to start doing more of these compilations because they are much more representative of how I think and the eclectic way I view fashion every day, so I truly hope you guys will enjoy!

Here are the people whose fashions have made me feel SheekChic:

Bella Hadid #MLbabe

Bella Hadid, my forever fashion muse sporting a very edgy ensemble with heavy necklaces, a simple black choker, biker-style rings, and the perfect L.B.J., “Little Black Jacket” (I’m definitely owning that term now). This is the perfect outfit when you’re feeling like a rockstar or simply want to look like one for the day. I’m obsessed!

I found this on Andrea Pion’s page (@sliceofpi on Instagram) and this is such a beautifully cohesive look. I’m not sure if I love the layering of the gold necklaces or that very bold, leopard-print bodysuit more! Also, she definitely gets props for that daring purse choice, I honestly love the introduction of a textured accessory, it’s small and compact, yet it makes a statement.

I’ve never been more obsessed with such an amazing pair of earrings! I only wish I knew where to find them, because I truly am a mermaid at heart, and I love all things nautical that remind me of being at sea collecting seashells. I also appreciate that these earrings consist of more of a rose-gold-tone, which is not commonly found for accessories. Rose gold is my favorite tone, and it will enhance warm skin tones, while also giving some needed warmth to those with cool/neutral skin tones.

Drew Barrymore

DREW BARRYMORE!! Oh my goodness, one of my all-time favorites since I was 12 years old! She is completely rocking the denim on denim look with such ease. To make the look more contemporary, I’d give her a dainty gold necklace, and if I could change something about this ensemble, I’d merely add a circular silver choker to add some dazzle without overwhelming or changing the mood of the outfit.

london fashion week celebrity looks

This is simply such a lovely ensemble! I’m a sucker for floral patterns and the lace is so perfectly arranged, that this outfit could be worn to any spring/summer outdoorsy event or even a fancy, candle-lit dinner. The outfit has drawn inspiration from many vintage trends like the early 20th-century silhouette emphasizing slimness, yet femininity with those lovely vintage sleeves, as well as, the 1970’s large frame, round lenses she’s sporting. You also can not forget the accessories, from the gold heart earrings all the way down to the gold “lockbox” purse with beautifully-intricate, engraved designs. This look is a SheekChic favorite all year-round for me.

SheekChic Favorite of the Day!

This is giving me a contemporary Alice in Wonderland vibe with the flared-out skirt, the dainty silhouette, use of silk material for the middle design, and finally, the beautiful, soft linen used for the rest of the dress. All of these work to make it a definite stand-out piece that I’d love to try out. The soft femininity of that round neckline would go absolutely perfect with a golden emerald necklace, which would help to add a nice pop of color. Not only is the dress so unique and so so beautiful, but those dazzlingly chic designer boots could be a star in anyone’s closet, talk about strutting in style on a rainy day (what a mood)! Also, another absolute favorite is that gorgeous Christian Dior bag, oh my goodness I’m just picturing all of the outfits that would go with that bag, you could rock it with a baggy Urban Outfitters tee and some denim shorts or even a chic Little Black Dress “L.B.D.”, and it would still be a cohesive look altogether. SheekChic APPROVED!

*Also, though the person’s head is not shown, I’m 95% sure this is Bella Hadid, I honestly wouldn’t expect anything less from her. Let me know who you think the mystery woman is! Hmmm.

SheekChic Fashion Inspiration from Decades Past

I’ve always been mystified by the idea of watching models strut down a runway since I first watched America’s Next Top Model season 1 at the tender age of 7. They had this way about them that just exuded such confidence and such grace that I found fashion shows so enchanting; as I grew older and my preoccupation with the fashion world grew, I realized that though I may have only experienced the 90’s,”The Last Great Decade”, for 3 short years, its fashion influence continues to inspire me each and every day. Whenever  I see a picture of the bubbly Claudia Schiffer strutting in classic Chanel or the mesmerizing Naomi Campbell in Dolce and Gabbana’s lively ensembles, it reminds me of why I fell in love with fashion in the first place; fashion is open to everyone’s own interpretation and style is how you demonstrate that interpretation to the world. 90’s fashion runway is and will always be my absolute favorite because a lot of the designers: Gianni Versace, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander Mcqueen, and so many more were just coming to fruition, they were in the process of developing their own interpretations of fashion, making their names known, and cementing their position in the fashion world. I always value the minds of creative geniuses, unafraid to break the mold and change the game, making it their own.

I love this outfit with every fiber of my being! I appreciate the fun play with patterns and overall soft, breezy feel of this look, it’s very delicate because of the material used for the ensemble, yet it also exudes grunge, the era popularized in the 90’s, which gives the whole ensemble great versatility. It’s a look that definitely would’ve turned heads being that, the whole “grunge” look/attitude was not deemed to be very fashion-forward, or even the least bit fashionable at first. However, Marc Jacobs arranged the show so successfully that grunge began to be taken more seriously and made many more appearances in the fashion world. I also definitely need that choker and those Doc Martens from Christy.

This ensemble literally reminds of fishnets, not the material for tights, but the actual netting used to catch fish, and I love it because it gives the outfit more authenticity when a designer can take something very real and very “un-glamorous” and make it SheekChic! Props to Marc Jacobs for choosing the indigo blue, as it enhances the outfit even more, by adding mystique and the perfect amount of edge, without appearing too gothic. I want/need/love this choker as well.

These outfits are simply my favorite because they are both things  I’d never ever have in my closet or have even dared to wear during my previous years (when “fitting in” with the crowd was my sole mission in life) however, the more I inspect and admire John Galliano’s ensembles, the more I fall in love with them. Fashion is all about getting out of your comfort zone and being spontaneous, more daring, and bolder than you ever thought you could be, and I’ve learned that the best way to do that with style, is to stand out and be dynamic, never “cookie-cutter”.

SheekChic HOME DECOR

Hi guys! So, recently I hit a writer’s block and was just feeling very uninspired the last couple of weeks, and it took me going to a friend’s house to realize that there are so many decor ideas I’d love to incorporate into my website! Finding the right home furnishings and even home aesthetic is essential to all of us because we all wish to have that “safe space” or safe haven where we can just unwind and decompress. I’m hoping that by putting my (thousands) of ideas for my future home into one area, I can narrow down the pieces that truly fit my aesthetic and my vision, so whether you live in your parent’s house, a tiny house, a cozy apartment, etc. here’s some home inspiration that you can pick and choose from!

*Avant-Garde decor at Reforma

One of the secret treasures I recently discovered was the chic website Reforma, a store based in Stockholm, Sweden. I honestly always struggle with finding places to suit my aesthetic and truly carry out my vision when it comes to planning my future interiors, and I’m just glad that there’s a place that is definitely suited for the vintage- lover like myself that also appreciates modern, avant-garde pieces. I implore you to check out their website and see for yourself!

Home Decor/Aesthetic:

I LOVE WOOD AND I LOVE TREES! It will come as no surprise that wherever I live in the future will have so many wood elements and pieces because it’s something about it that just gives me comfort and brings me so much tranquility; also there are so many different types of wood to choose from, you could have cherry wood cabinets or armoires, you could have stained wood floors or tables, you can even have a sort of Chronicles of Narnia woodsy aesthetic, the possibilities are absolutely endless!

I must have this exact piece wherever I live, I’ve never seen something so beautiful and so elegant. Although I’m wondering if I would keep the original paint or if I would paint it a nice buttery yellow or a mellow mint green to add some color to the room, without disrupting the neutral decor…hmmm decisions decisions

SheekChic favorite of the day!

These are the Narnia vibes I was talking about guys! If you have no idea what Narnia is, it’s a fantasy film made in 2005, and it involves 4 orphaned children who encounter a magical wardrobe and basically help a talking lion (this is a very watered down version), I’d recommend that everyone should watch it at least once in their lives. Anywho, the movie takes place in the most enchanting New Zealand woods and countryside that anyone would dream of traveling to, and it has greatly inspired my home aesthetic!

SheekChic 2018 Trends: Ruffles!

I know I’m not the only one that has noticed the overabundance of ruffles this year ;from streetwear to online clothing stores like Princess Polly and Saboskirt, even to the  fashion runway, ruffled tops and dresses are seemingly here to stay, and I have to say that it has been my favorite trend to emerge this year. I’m usually not the type to dress in frilly, delicate attire, but it’s something about the way those ruffles spruce up your outfit, adding a bit of playfulness, yet still remaining demure and quite lovely!  I think having a ruffled ensemble in your closet is an essential piece because they’re perfect for day brunch, a light-hearted outing to the park, a downtown stroll, or even (my daydream) dancing in a sunflower field!

Enjoy the ruffled goodness below!

Grace Kelly the epitome of elegance and delicacy, shining in a such a beautiful and refined, ruffled dress. This number definitely has some Latin flavor giving it extra Va Va Voom; the open neckline lets the outfit breathe from the heaps of ruffles Grace is under, and the polka dots along the top are classy, yet whimsical additions. The floral headpiece replicating a pink rose is fit for a princess like Princess Grace Kelly, and my favorite items are, of course, those dangly earrings, clearly a must-have with any princess fit!

The patterns on these ruffles are to-die-for! I love that Karl Lagerfeld added the black vest to give the outfit some edginess and that smoldering purple smoky eye adds the perfect amount of impact to the floral ensemble, without overpowering it. Again, I completely adore those earrings! *hint hint I have an affinity for earrings if you couldn’t tell

An oldie but a goodie, how could I not include my favorite style muse on television, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker)  from Sex and the City. This is an ensemble I would dream to have in my closet!!

*my second favorite tv style muse is Cheryl Blossom/Madelaine Petsch whom you should definitely check out on Riverdale

SheekChic Favorite of the Day:

I love the juxtaposition between the doily-like, elegance of the top, and some good-old classic denim, to make this the perfect streetwear ensemble! I’d definitely pair this look with a high ponytail or a very posh bun.

SheekChic Summer Beauty!

Yellow Eyeshadow

Bella Hadid sported this delightfully all-yellow ensemble at a Christian Dior fashion event, and quite honestly, all I can stare at are her eyes! This is one of my all-time favorite eye looks! The yellow eyeshadow trend truly blossomed this year, taking the beauty world by storm in its ability to brighten up any outfit, casual or dressy, without seeming overpowering. While many would be fearful of wearing such an avant-garde color on the eyes, all it takes are quick sweeps of your most dazzling yellow, matte for a muted yet alluring look or patting a shimmery yellow shade, using either your fingers or a wet eyeshadow brush to model an eye look to be envied by Greek goddesses. I’m here for the canary sunflower eyes this year, how about you?

Pretty and Posh: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018 Collection

My week was made when I saw that my absolute favorite favorite designer of all-time, Chanel, had recently set the trend for this year’s Fall 2018 fashions! Decorated to replicate the bustling, picturesque Parisian streets, the runway accompanied by its own street vendor stations, street lamps, smooth pavement, and replicas of Paris’ ornate buildings, set the tone for the utmost classic elegance, Karl Lagerfeld (their head creative director) is known for. For fall/winter 2018, Chanel focused on the posh, working-woman, dressed head-to-toe in refined skirt suits, fashioned with the most expensive wool fabrics with melange designs, complete with classic Chanel pearl embellishments, and a nostalgic nod to women’s suits from the 1960’s. This runway is not for the flamboyant, fashion risk-takers, instead, with its muted shades of gray and black, this show is for the people who pride fashion in polished practicality, those working people who value structured ensembles without much fuss. They don’t have time to dress in every color of the rainbow, they have things to do, business meetings to attend, negotiations to facilitate! While this runway is not one of my favorites, *I always appreciate more vivid colors and less structure, I do appreciate the vision Lagerfeld had; in fashion, every single individual should have something for them, so this year’s collection is for the no-nonsense, corporate working-woman who values classic elegance. How CHIC!

My favorite looks from the Fall/ Winter 2018 Haute Couture Show:

I loved this ensemble’s play with patterns and different textures! The embellished cuffs and sleeveless top really helped to break up, what would’ve been an otherwise drab suit. I also appreciate that this outfit featured an off-the-shoulder, v-neck, letting the suit breathe, while other ensembles consisted of the typical, structured shoulder and a suit jacket buttoned all the way up. My favorite pieces from this show were all of the sleek, ankle-length heeled booties, what a modern take on the classic businesswoman’s shoe attire!

When I saw this nearly all-white ensemble I was so excited to see something else besides gray. I immediately thought ” Ice Queen” business executive going to a posh dinner party in the Swiss Alps! What I would do instead of the leg-slit on the skirt, is close the skirt up along that line and I would’ve added the whitest pearl embellishments to go along the side of the skirt and along the sides of the arms. This would not only add shine but still, keep the outfit looking Chic with a classic Chanel touch! Also, can I please have those beautiful shoes?!

Ahh yes, finally some color!! Loving the muted fuchsia, complete with the models’ red hair, and then some polished leather booties, perfect!

I love the sleek ponytail and a flipped pompadour to represent  “Rockabilly” fashion reminiscent of the 1950’s; this solidifies my theory that this show was influenced by the 1950’s/1960’s. This ensemble’s marble pattern really spoke to me and those fantastic shoes are simply amazing!

Last, but CERTAINLY not least

SheekChic Favorite of the day:

That HAIR! The all-black ensemble!! My favorite look from the show this year!! I love the bleach-blond versus the black ruche, what an awesome juxtaposition! Ahh this is totally an outfit I’d sport if I’m ever in the edgy, yet elegant mood; I’m just wondering what party am I wearing this too?!! Hmmm…decisions

Bella Hadid sizzling in all Nike Sportswear

I appreciate the effortlessly cool feel of this outfit. With athleisure having the spotlight in the fashion community, I’m always happy to see monochromatic fashion done with such taste, even down to her Navy-tinted eyewear! Bella adds her own personal twist to the sportswear trend by layering with several delicate gold necklaces. Also, major props for the classic Nike sneakers!

Emily Ratajowski Chic in Black-and-Denim ensemble

Emily is always a favorite of mine, not only is she SHEEKCHIC royalty, but we both share a fond love of denim. Here she sports 80’s-inspired high-waisted jeans with rolled cuffs, to display her lovely choice of Western-style leather booties that I’d die to have in a heartbeat. For me, her accessories are what really make this simple ensemble come to life, the huge silver buckle and her double-hooped earrings should definitely be in your accessory arsenal!

Emily strikes again! This time, experimenting with more vibrant color themes for this outfit, I love  the rockin’ red, thigh-high, rainboots because they add sophistication to otherwise very free-flowing outfit, she took on the risk and did a fabulous job while playing with textures, denim jeans, rubber boots, and loose shirt with very thin cotton material. My absolute FAVE part of this outfit, besides those shoes, has got to be her gold necklace. Despite it being a small accessory, the necklace shines brightly as a simple yet chic choice for jewelry!

Rock n Roll! Alexander Wang Ready-To-Wear Spring 2019 Runway

This show was quite literally one of my top 3 favorite runways from this fashion season! I always love Alexander’s casual chic aesthetic featuring very classic streetwear pieces that anyone can work without having to worry about appearing too flamboyant or veering too far out of their comfort zone. The theme for his early Spring ’19 Ready-to-Wear was “Immigrant Americana” a cool twist on what it means to be “American”, full of lots of biker leather, denim jeans and outerwear, studded black booties, the coolest of red and black bandanas, and tons of edgy statement accessories that replicated the metallic material of motorcycle parts. As someone who loves to play with casual wear and throw in an edgy or sophisticated accessory or two, this show was made for someone like me, who’s fashion mood fluctuates between soft and bohemian or trendy, tomboy depending on the day. I also loved that Alexander Wang utilized his platform as an esteemed fashion designer to make a personal statement regarding his parents’ tumultuous journey as a young, struggling immigrant couple attempting to assimilate into America’s complex culture, learning the societal rules, and raise their children in a land foreign to them. Alexander’s father made his very first appearance at one of Wang’s runways to witness his son’s heartfelt tribute to honor the tenacity of immigrants, and Wang also sought to feature  his own experience of what America meant to him, “infusing it with pop culture Americana references that I grew up with like American football, motorcycle Harley Davidson culture, and rock ’n’ roll music.”. He never lost sight of the rich Chinese culture he came from, by giving a show rich with pacific islander representation, Chinoiserie motifs, and clever use of “Made in China” tags.  The show bled red, white, and blue with stars and stripes making their way to each and every look in some way, shape, or form, even …facepaint! It definitely represented what it means to be an American in the world’s melting pot.

CFDA Awards Night ’18 Edition

A night to honor all of fashion’s trendsetters, the annual CFDA is one of my favorite events because of the fact that it centers around celebrating fashion designers, influencers, and recognizing specific fashion icons who are completely unafraid to wear their style on their sleeve. Many of the night’s favorites were: Kim Kardashian ( the night’s big winner of the CFDA Fashion Influencer Award) wearing a custom Rick Owens white crop dress and her classic high ponytail, supermodel Naomi Campbell in fiery red Spring ’18 Calvin Klein, and Gigi Hadid wearing a vivid Versace jumpsuit.

I loved Diane von Furstenberg’s fun play on leopard print with the burst of muted yellow, a flirty leg slit, and the simple strappy heel. The dress’ playfulness is met with a simple yellow eyeshadow look that doesn’t compete with the outfit’s brightness, it enhances it.

Lili Reinhart (Riverdale‘s “goody-two-shoes” Betty Cooper) dresses to impress at this year’s CFDA as, in her own words, “I knew that I needed to take a risk and go out of my comfort zone,”. Coming out of her shell of normalcy proved to be a home run for Lili, as she dazzled in this extremely soft, floral number adorned with blush flowers and the palest of green leaves! It almost strikes me as a reminiscent of  Persephone, the Greek goddess of spring… hmmm A plus in my book.

To achieve this simple hair look:

Pull your hair into a mid-level bun

Take some pieces out to frame the front of your face to your liking

For extra definition, use a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, or anything with a medium/large barrel

What an appropriate outfit for a night where all fashion risks are celebrated (for the most part at least), this was the look that surprised me the most, and it is actually one of my favorite looks from the supermodel to date. This flamingo-inspired dress accompanied with fuzziness all around, soft lavender to offset the outfit’s sheer boldness and a soft asymmetry for the shoulder, as well as the leg, proves daring and wild while oozing elegance, all at the same time! Well done Kendall!

Pull a strand for the front of your face

Then tuck some stray pieces behind your ear

Finish it off, with a hairspray for hold, and voila!

Trend Forecast for Spring/Summer 2019

  1. Feathers
image
Feathers are making a statement regarding fabric texture, by adding a fun and sophisticated twist to your favorite blouses and dressy ensembles!

2. Animal Prints

Image result for snakeskin outfits
Following a recent revival of the flashy early 2000’s fashion era, animal prints have made the ultimate comeback in full force, now seen on: hats, purses, pants, shirts, and shoes. This print is the perfect way to make a daring statement while still appearing chic!

3. Yellow

The BIGGEST color this season, and perhaps this year, is definitely yellow! It has seen a recent explosion on all fashion runways from Oscar de la Renta (as shown here) to Marc Jacobs and Givenchy, and it has also been widely accepted in street style as well, making it a permanent staple.

4. Neon

Related image
Along with the retro revival of animal prints and the wave of bright and vibrant yellow, we also have seen the comeback of neon shades: blues, pinks, oranges, and greens, reminiscent of the 80’s color explosion. This will be the trend I look most forward to seeing, because it’s such a bold fashion statement, and it is certain to turn heads wherever you go!
